Mega Scotland are pleased to announce that this
years Mega Camping will take place at Gallowhill Caravan and
Camping Site, Kinross.
Just off the M90 and with a view across Loch Leven to the Lomond
Hills, Gallowhill rally field is used in the annual 'T in the Park'
festival and offers us almost unlimited basic pitches. We have
booked the rally field from Wed 28th July until Wed 4th August.
The Event
The loggable event (open to campers and non-campers) will start at
6pm on Friday 30th
July and will take the form of a
light hearted highland games competition. We have several events
lined up for you including a not so traditional caber toss and a
wellie throw with the highlight being a Tug of war competition.
For the tug of war we want as many regions as possible to put in
a team and bring as much support as you can. There will be a grand
trophy for the winner of this prestigious competition. There will
be 10 to a team and teams can be mixed.
As part of this years Mega Camping event we have engaged a
professional Hog Roast company to supply a succulent and tasty Hog.
The locally produced hog will be cooked onsite and the price will
include the meat, roll, sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce or
if you prefer, a vegetarian BBQ option is available. In addition we
will also supply salad, plates and utensils.
The hog and
vegetarian option will be ready to serve from 6.30pm and the cost
will be £4.99 per person.
The hog roast or the vegetarian option is available by advance
payment only to ensure that there are sufficient portions available
on the day so, as there only a finite number available, please
order early to avoid disappointment.

Camping information
Kinross has all facilities you will want or need – more
details of the town can be found on the local
website.
Anyway, back to the camping, the rally field is suitable for
tents, caravans and motorhomes but for anyone wishing electric hook
needs to book in for the main site area.
Prices per night are :
Tents: £5.50 per person (7-15yr olds half price,
under 7’s free)
Caravans/Motorhomes: £16.50 (inc electric hook up) £14.00 (without
hook up)

There appears to be no website for the location but we have

A number of the reviews for Gallowhill campsite mention the
number of showers. These are adequate for the number of people who
normally use the site but with the large influx of cachers
expected, these could become over stretched. So with this in mind
here are some alternatives:-
- Kinross services on the M90: 2 free showers available.
Also free wifi.
- Loch Leven Community campus : (Open Mon-Fri 7.00am -
9.45pm Sat-Sun 8.00am - 4.45pm) Showers will be provided at a cost
of £3. The Community campus also has free wifi and public access
PCs as well as a cafe serving most of the day and vending machines
for later in the evening once the cafe closes.
- Loch Leven Sports centre : The sports centre have
agreed to allowing mega campers to be allowed in at a reduced rate
with an activity and shower costing £3.40(adults)/£2.40(children).
Unfortunately the leisure centre cannot offer us shower only
rates.
- On the actual day of the mega we have exclusive use of 2 male
and 2 female showers in the Dewars Centre. These will be available
from the mega opening (10am) right through until 11.30pm.
