Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches created for the purpose of introducing geocachers to the rich history, the extensive path network and the general scenic beauty of the Irvine Valley.

This cache is located on a woodland trail high up on the south side of the valley above Darvel. Park at Dyke Farm next to the large outbuilding without obstructing the driveway entrance to the farmhouse. look for a kissing gate behind the tree at the rear left of this outbuilding. Follow the path from this gate uphill through a treelined avenue to a second kissing gate. Stop and take in the views as you head uphill. Arran to the west, Loudoun Hill to the east and the huge Whitelee Forest Windfarm (biggest in Europe) to the north. The trail, known locally as 'The Dyke Walk' is waymarked and runs parallel to the field fence before turning south and exiting onto a forestry road. The route takes you very close to another cache 'Hole in the Dyke'. Seasoned walkers may wish to continue on this route to the Darvel Mast and the nearby cache called 'It's a mast see'.
