Geocache Description:

Muizenberg Multi #2: Beach and Beyond (v3)

Note: The coordinates given are not for the cache but for the starting point.

This 1.2 km walk multi-cache should take you less than an hour and takes in the magnificent Muizenberg beach (one of the most beautiful in Cape Town but fully exposed to the Cape Doctor - which blows most of the time!) and some interesting locations a little more inland. The cache is hidden in a relatively secure and muggle-free location – not easy to find in Muizenberg!

For a brief history of Muizenberg see here or for more detailed historical info see here or here.

For various information on ‘Muizie’ (including history, some old photos, the beach, museums, etc) see here.

For a detailed downloadable map showing all the Muizenberg and St James points of interest and historical buildings go here.

See here for a live webcam at the beach.

See here for an interesting short video with archive footage of people enjoying the beach and here for a short Afrikaans video (with English sub-titles) on the history of Muizenberg beach and town.

Park at Surfer’s Corner anywhere near Step 1

Steps 1 and 2 (and Parking): At or near S 34 6.529 E 18 28.117 you will see a large mural painted on the outer wall of the station which has A women’s heads/faces of which B are wearing glasses.

Step 3: Walk along the beach front to S 34 6.510 E 18 28.208 where you will be standing in front of the only single beach hut in this row of four. If the colour of this is red, use C=4, if blue use C=5, if yellow use C=6

Step 4: Continue to S 34 6.497 E 18 28.222 at the front of the Sharkspotter Centre. At your feet is a very rusty rectangular cover in the centre of which are D letters.

Update 10/5/23: the cover has been replaced, so use D=4

Step 5: Head off away from the beach to S 34 06.419 E 18 28.270. The date that this notable business was established is 193E

Step 6: Move on through the centre of the town to the building @ S 34 06 405 E 18 28 038 where you will see a commemorative plaque on the wall to the right of a gate of this religious building. The alphanumeric value of the 2nd letter of the month of 2009 in which this facility was dedicated by Jill Kaplan = F

Step 7: Move a short distance to the sacred location (kramat) at S 34 06.430 E 18 27.972. Here you will see that there are G vertical white bars on the outer of the two access gates

Cache location: The cache, a small camo-taped tablet pot, is hidden at:

S 34 06.C(E-G)(C-D) 18 2G.A(B+E)(F-B-2)
