This cache is placed in the 'village' of Stanwix, to the north of Carlisle City Centre. There is plenty of free car parking nearby, there are also pubs, cafes, takeaways and shops.
Please make sure the cache is placed back securely as not every part is magnetic and I found the cache on the pavement recently!
The cache is placed over the road from a car park. Once you have found the cache, go over the road into the car park and then up to left where you will find the centurian and information board.
Carlisle is one of Britain’s oldest cities, founded around AD82. The building of Hadrian’s Wall started in 122AD and took 14 years to complete. It was built to protect the Romans from the marauding Scots who they feared may attack them. (no comment.....)
There is part of Hadrian's wall here which has unfortunately had to be covered up for health and safety reasons. There is an information board and a figure of a centurion where the wall is. The hotel has some artefacts from Roman times and part of one of their bars is made up of stones from the original wall.
This is where the Roman garrison Ala Petriana (modern name Stanwix Fort) was built. This fort was built to guard the Eden bridgehead and housed a cavalry regiment of around 1,000.

Cette cache est placée dans le «village» de Stanwix, au nord du centre-ville de Carlisle. Vous trouverez de nombreuses places de parking gratuites à proximité. Il y a aussi des pubs, des cafés, des traiteurs et des magasins.
La cache est placée sur la route à partir d'un parking. Une fois que vous l'aurez trouvée, allez sur la route dans le parking, puis à gauche où vous trouverez le centurion et le panneau d'information.
Carlisle est une des plus anciennes villes de Grande-Bretagne, fondée vers l'an 82 après Jésus Christ. La construction du Mur d'Hadrien a commencé en 122 après J.C. et a duré 14 ans. Il a été construit pour protéger les Romains des Ecossais en maraude et par qui ils craignaient être attaqués. (Pas de commentaire .....)
Ici, une partie du mur d'Hadrien a malheureusement dû être couvert pour des raisons de santé et de sécurité. Il y a un panneau d'information et un centurion, là où vous trouverez le mur. L'hôtel dispose de quelques objets de l'époque romaine et un de leurs bars est constitué en partie de pierres du mur d'origine.
C'est là que la garnison romaine Ala Petriana (nom moderne Fort Stanwix) a été construite. Ce fort a été construit pour protéger la tête du pont Eden et accueillait un régiment de cavalerie d'environ 1.000 hommes.
