Geocache Description:

This is a multi cache placed on Borough Hill. You need to collect
information from a circular walk in order to solve the puzzle.
The co-ordinates are for parking.

Borough Hill is a hill to the east of the town of Daventry,
Northamptonshire. It is over 200 metres (660 ft) above sea level
and dominates the surrounding area.

There are the remains of an Iron Age hill fort and a later Roman
villa and farming settlement. The remains of the roman villa were
discovered in 1823 and excavated in 1852. The villa's remains lie
on the north tip within the ramparts of an Iron Age fortress which
covers the summit of the hill. No sign of the villa can be seen on
the hill as it was back filled to preserve its remains. Drawings,
manuscripts and some of the antiquities are kept in the British
Museum.

BBC Borough Hill site opened in 1925 with the first 'long wave'
National Broadcasting station known as 5XX. In 1932 the 'short
wave' Empire Service commenced broadcasting, later developing into
the BBC World Service. The radio announcement of 'Daventry Calling'
was made at the opening and become well known across the world.

The station was also instrumental in the development of Radar
and the G system of bomber command navigation and homing device
during World War 2. (A visit to cache GC1859M Birth of Radar is
highly recommended.)
Due to the nature of 'short wave' broadcasting, large areas of
Borough Hill were occupied with towers and masts to support large
antennas – now only one remains. The BBC decided to close the
station and on 28th March 1992 the last transmission took
place.
The BBC station is now closed and the hill is a large 150 acres
of public grassland.

It is a good place to go for an excellent walk with great views and is popular with dog walkers.
