Hartwell Dam has a new pier paid for with funds from a PCB settlement with Sangamo-Weston Inc. The pier represents the first use of money allocated from the PCB contamination lawsuit settlement trust fund to be completed in Georgia or South Carolina.
The new pier is connected to an existing one that has been closed since Sept. 11, 2001. The existing pier had been closed because parking and entry to it allowed vehicles to come too close to the Hartwell Dam power plant.
The new pier will have parking and access through an existing public recreation area.
This is a easy two stage multi that will take you to a scenic part of the Savannah River along the newly constructed boardwalk. Second stage is a short drive from the first. Hidden in the usual manner. There may be the occasional brush, mosquitoes, muggles and thorns near the final. Dress accordingly and use stealth please. :)
