The Cliffe Summit Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Jimruyton: This cache has been destroyed so many times that I have decided to turn it into a virtual one. The site is too good to lose completely.

It will be replaced by "New Cliffe Summit"

Geocache Description:

The cache has been stolen and interfered with a number of times and was missing again when I visited the summit today, so I've decided to turn it into a virtual cache.

Send me a photo of where you think it was, and tell me the breed of bird that is pictured on the bottom right of the country park sign south of the summit.

Thanks to Sir & Lady Harveyjj who temporarily sorted a problem on their visit and were FTF on a temporary log

If you are visiting "The Cliffe" GCJ6R2, why not do the complete journey and head for the summit? There are a number of paths leading up to the top, just pass "The Cliffe" cache and keep climbing.

At the top the 360 degree view is restricted by Nescliffe Hill to the south, and the woods below the summit to the north, but there is a panoramic view which includes the South Shropshire Hills and the Wrekin over the reservoir, and to the southwest the Severn Valley can be seen stretching down through Welshpool. It is dominated by the three hills of Briedden, which has Rodney's pillar on top and is slowly being quarried away, Middletown, and Moel y Golfa. To the west are the Berwyn Hills and further north can be seen Oswestry.

At the summit there is a seat, a trig pillar and a toposcope, to tell you what you are looking at. Round the corner there are picnic tables

Vehicles, other than those owned by residents, are not allowed on the Cliffe.

You can park at 52° 46.389N 002° 54.334W, as for GCJ6R2, or 52 47.335N 002 53.88W, and pick that one up en-route. (If it's too crowded there there is more parking back toward the village).
