At Waipu Caves there are actually several small caves, so the plural is true.
All the caves together have a total length of about 300m, the biggest cave is about 175m.
The highlight is the third chamber of the main cave, which contains glow worms.
The caves are not developed but are open to the public and are visited frequently.
Bring a Torch to see the Glow Worms in the Cave.
As there is mud and narrow crawls, wear old clothes and have another change of clothes for afterwards.
Glow worms are pretty common in New Zealand, they are found in almost every cave. But it is difficult to see them and easy to disturb them so they do not glow any more. So be carful and as silent as possible when you enter the cave.
Near the caves entrance is the Waipu Caves Walkway that is 2 km long. It takes you through a karst limestone landscape across farmland and regenerating bush, passing by Karren, Dolines, and strangely eroded rocks.
