First of 6 (including a BONUS)
This cache series will take you along Varteg and The Balance Circular walk towards Cwmavon, through woodland and emerging onto Varteg and returning via the Balance.
The 4.5 mile walk will take you along the Viaduct, through Pen-y-lan wood; past the Old Jackdaw Quarry; through the now abandoned Varteg railway station; through a mature beech woodland, across Vipond's Top Pits; Past the ruins of the Lighthouse.
We have given all caches in this series a 3/3 rating based on the series as a whole, using the geocaching rating system; athough #1 + #2 may be easier as they are on or near a tarmaced route.
All caches may be completed as part of the series or independantly. For the bonus you will need to collect a clue from each of the caches to be able to work out the bonus cache co-ordinates.

*To begin the walk: From the suggested parking area, cross the main road and go down around the corner to take the first left onto Pigsash Road. At the end of the first row of houses, turn immediately right, and bear left past the garages and onto the old railway line, that will start your walk across the Viaduct.
The circular walk is on well defined footpaths, some of which may be unsuitable for strollers and wheelchairs (please refer to attributes designated for each individual cache for details).
The GPS readings were not steady for this one, so we have included a detailed hint and spoiler photo.
