This cache is nearby a lay-by (well two actually!). It is an easy cache and dash for those Cachers who commute up and down the Lancs or find themselves heading out of town on the A580, or can be linked with others for a pleasant stroll.
You are looking for a small Tupperware clip lid box it is small, but will fit small TBs or swap items. There is no pen so you will have to bring your own writing implement!
For cache and dash, park in lay-by, it's pretty obvious as you approach – and to help, if you miss the first lay-by, the second is right after it!
The East Lancs road is very busy at times and please be aware this cache is on the westbound side (heading out of Manchester). Please don’t park on the other side and try to cross, as there are no crossings here! – Wait until you are headed the other way please!
The A580 was originally called the Liverpool to East Lancashire Road, this was shortened over the years to the ‘East Lancs’ or if you are local, just ‘the Lancs’.
This road is the fore-runner of the M62 and is a pleasant drive in either direction, as you drive along have a good look around, on both sides of the Lancs you can see farmland and mills and once out of the conurbations of Liverpool and Manchester you can almost look back in time. According to Wikipedia the East Lancashire Road was the first purpose built inter-city highway in the UK and was officially opened on 18th July 1934 by King George V.
If you park in one of the lay-bys near to this cache, may we recommend (for the Cachers with time on their hands) that the following local caches are worth a look from here, and are accessible via footpaths branching off the one this cache is on!
GC1HNEK – Astley Green Colliery
GC17DK9 – Cole not Dole
