Fakenham Salvation Army Hall has the distinction of being the only building in Fakenham affected by enemy action during the Second World War. On 8th May 1941 at 1.10am nine bombs were dropped over the town, but there was only one direct hit, which demolished the Hall that had been on its present site for 40 years.

On 11th September 1954 there was a stone laying ceremony when 10 foundation stones were laid in the entrance of the new suite of halls which was to be erected on the bombed site of the old building in Oak St. The new building would cost £24,000 and was expected to be ready the following spring. On 19th March 1955 Sir Thomas Cook turned the key on the newly resurrected building.

In July 2005 18 months of renovation work was completed to the interior and exterior of the Hall, which now boasts a new enclosed façade and disabled access. For further information and pictures see the History pages at: www.salvationarmy.org.uk/fakenham.

You will need the following information from stones laid in the front foyer of the building (all visible from the outside if the building is shut) and from the information provided above.
