This cache shows hikers an alternate way down the bluffs on the west side of North Table Mountain. You're looking for a camo peanut butter jar. WARNING: If you're descending from the rim of the mesa, be careful because the trail can be slippery due to gravel and marble-sized rocks underfoot.
The first time I hiked this area, I ascended via the gravel road to the north of this cache and continued hiking along the jeep track, which is several hundred yards back from the edge of the bluffs. I missed the fantastic views that a lesser-traveled trail presents as it winds its way along the edge of the bluffs.
This cache marks an easily-missed trail that joins the upper trail with a parallel trail that skirts the foot of the bluffs. If you're lucky, you might see rock climbers scaling the bluffs nearby. If you've got especially sharp eyes, you might spot hardware anchors in the rock, which climbers use to safely clip in while they're being belayed.
This is rattlesnake country. Look before you put your hands into holes. No need to move rocks.
