The cache is located
on Wellington's Northern Walkway close to the Raroa rail
station and playing fields.
This is a rather quiet and pleasant spot in Wellington's
northern suburbs. The nearby skyline to the west is dominated by
the Malvina Major Retirement Village whilst the industrial looking
wasteland to the east is the top of the Wellington quarry that is
clearly seen from Ngauranga Gorge as you travel north on SH1.
The railway station itself is one of eight stations on the
Johnsonville line, a commuter branch railway, and serves the
suburbs of Raroa and Broadmeadows. One of the things for which
Raroa is most notable is that it was the terminus for the last
of the freight traffic on this line, the freight being mostly
livestock destined for the nearby abattoirs, and housed in large
stockyards nearby.
Access from either Burma Road or Fraser Ave, there is good parking
either way, or you could of course catch a train!.
