An 'almost' drive-by cache in the Vic High Country (2WD possible)
Billy Goat’s Gruff.
The cache is a bigger ammo can painted to blend with its surroundings in the Victorian High Country at the start of one of the more iconic 4wd tracks. The cache is located just off the track which if driven sedately can be reached by 2wd vehicles.
Whilst up this way, don’t forget to attempt the nearby cache at the Pinnacles Fire Tower – another great place with views of Billy Goat Bluff Track. If travelling back towards Licola there are other caches to do near McFarlane’s Saddle and Mt Tamboritha.
There are no views at this cache as I wanted to keep it available for all drivers – but if you are in a 4wd and reasonably capable as an off road driver then drive on!
Billy Goat Bluff Track (4WD only) will take you on a fairly decent descent to the Wonnangatta Road (and River) where you can make your way into Wonnangatta Station, Talbotville or Dargo. The options are endless. Enjoy.
There are no seasonal gates to get to this cache but being an Alpine environment there can be snow, strong winds or other hazards at any time of the year – take care. Billy Goat Bluff Track is seasonally closed, just after the Queen’s Birthday long weekend to just before Melbourne Cup weekend.
We loaded this one up as it is our biggest cache yet – even iPod speakers!!!!
