Geocache Description:

Cache is placed across the street from Liberace's house

It is reported Liberace bought the property after the home had been turned to a hotel in 1967 for $185,000. It was in need of repair and he spent $136,000 restoring it to it's former glory. Besides adding crystal Chandeliers and gold-leafed mirrors, all the orginal roof was removed and each handmade tile repaired and replaced.
Liberace, after a flamboyant lifestyle died of AIDS in 1987 Mourners, many of them celebrities, packed Our Lady of Solitude Church (across the street). Telgrams were read by Father William Erstad from President Ronald Reagan and the First Lady, Nancy.
Shortly after his death is was announced that developers planned to turn the home into a private museum. Then-mayer Sonny Bono toured the estate but the city was unable to reach a agreement. In 1990, more than 3,000 items ranging from small kick knacks to luxury auto's were auctioned off at the Plaza Theatre, up the street. Amoung the items sold: a red boat-tailed Auburn speedster, a white and gold Steinway piano, a black mink bedspread embroidered with Liberace's candelabra logo.
Later that year, a real estate investor purchased the "Casa" for $725,000 and spent another $100,000 on improvements and furnishings. He even managed to track down many items previously owned by Liberace and returned them to their rightful place.
