Geocache Description:

Within reach of the Moccasin Trail. An 850ML camouflaged Lock-n-Lock container.

The Moccasin Trail.

This loop trail will take you through some majestic mature Maple forests at the edge of Crawford Lake. Along the trail there are interpretive signs with the lines of a First Nations prayer. As you walk you can read the signs and you can also pray this ancient prayer of appreciation for our natural world.

Please do not leave the trail! If you find your GPS says you are passing it but you are still more than one or two metres away just continue on down the trail. It is very likely you are just on the wrong side of the trail, continue on, you will loop around and be within sight of the cache again! Cache is within 2 metres of the trail.

This park is full of both natural and cultural history. The Moccasin trail lets you explore a small part of this site's cultural history. If you want to explore more then you can take a detour half way down the Moccasin Trail and go to the valley lookout and back or when you're done take the boardwalk around this unusual lake (an EarthCache! GC13R7N). The forests and wetlands surrounding the lake are also special. They are rich in biodiversity and hold many unique plants and animals. Watch for butterflies enjoying sunny patches on the trails (you may see the rare West Virginia White, if it's May), listen to the birds calling in the trees, or you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the giant Snapping Turtle that inhabits the lake.

Visitors centre is usually open: 10am - 4pm. Outhouses available on site if visitors centre is closed. Park closes at dusk! There is lots to explore so while it may only take an hour to find the cache I would give yourself lots of time to explore the other trails (but the Bruce Trail is not stroller friendly).

Information about Conservation Halton and our Geocaching Policies can be seen on our profile page, please take some time to learn more or feel free to contact me with any questions.

Regular entrance fees apply. Or save money (and get perks) by becoming a member. Automated gates now in use, schedule your visit online is best, but usually someone at the gatehouse on weekends. Outhouses available on site. Park closes at dusk.
