It seems a shame to spend a lot of time creating a mural and then hiding it but that is what has happened here. It is quite a long mural and I had to break it into two to fit it reasonably onto the cache page.
Created in 1984, this mural was sponsored by the Cremorne Gardens Residents Action Group (CGRAG) and depicts a number of events in the area's history. The Cremorne Gardens were originally pleasure gardens created on the banks of the Yarra in 1853. The Gardens themselves therefore were located somewhat south of this mural site, and only lasted until 1863. The area is part of the city of Yarra, was renamed Cremorne in 1999, and is mostly light industrial and residential now.
Among many everyday things on the mural are a some things of real interest -
Hot Air Balloons. The first balloon flight in Australia occurred at the Gardens in 1858, and travelled about 12 km north to Brunswick.
Exotic Animals. There was a menagerie here, with several exotic animal species. An interesting link is that the camels used for the Burke and Wills expedition in 1860 came from here.
Paddle Steamer. This plied a route from Princess Bridge to the Gardens, bringing visitors to the many events at the gardens.
The cache is necessarily a micro and should not be hard to find. Interestingly the hiding container was sitting here waiting for a cache.
