The Malaysian Rabbit Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been disabled for some time and as the owner has not repaired it I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

The Malaysian Rabbit The cache is placed on Waldridge Fell. You should look all around you as the views of the surrounding area are quite spectacular on a clear day. It's worth planning a route to find this cache as there are beautiful walks on the Fell and clear paths. There is plenty of wildlife to enjoy in this tranquil spot. Short route (0.5 mile): park at N54°50.453 W001°36.868. Longer route (1.5 mile): park at N54°49.460 W001°35.651.

The Malaysian Rabbit
We're fairly new to Geocaching but have recently been enjoying those on the Waldridge Fells, particularly by 'Us 4 and Jess' and 'MissyGracie.

The Fell is beautiful and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), as it is one of the last remaining areas of lowland fell (heathland) in the county, with a raised valley floor peat bog. There is extensive evidence of coal mining with subsidence and other features related to the colliery and pits. Typical heathland vegetation and wildlife are present consisting of heather, bracken, gorse, rabbit, game birds, blackberry, bilberry and raspberry. In the surrounding birch and oak woodland you may see Roe Deer, s Sparrowhawk, and Tawny Owl. It is bordered to the west and south by the Daisy Hill local nature reserve. Please keep to the paths as there is much erosion in the area.

The cache is placed on the Fell and before you start your search, you are advised to look all around you while you walk, as the views of the surrounding area are quite spectacular on a clear day.

Clue: look for the 'gate to nowhere'.

There are many ways you can choose to get to this cache but there are a couple of suggestions below:

Quick route: Park in 'Tinkler Row' car park (N54°50.453 W001°36.868). There is ample parking here, from here the cache is around half a mile away.

Longer Route: For those who prefer to comibine Geocaching with a slightly longer walk, park at the Red Lion Car Park (N54°49.460 W001°35.651). From here the cache is around one and a quarter miles. There are plenty of tracks around to create even longer walks. This route is more interesting and a little more challenging than the quick route.

The cache is called the 'Malaysian Rabbit' because we work between the UK and Malaysia, which is a beautiful country and it will be fun to track this cache whilst we are in Malaysia. The rabbit connection is that basically, I love these beautiful, gentle creatures. The picture in the box is Miffy the houserabbit who lived very contently for 14 years.
