Geocache Description:

Established in the fall 2009, the College of Southern Idaho started its Wind Turbine Technology Program. As of this posting, there are currently 20 students enrolled in the program. The program teaches students various aspects of the wind turbine industry, including a fundamental history of wind turbines, electrical theory, mechanical drive systems, PLC logic, electric motors and generators, tower climbing safety and rescue, hydraulic systems and industry specific tool usage.

This is a growing industry in Idaho, with many of the turbines showing up on the horizons in the Southern Idaho area. The cache is hidden near one of the actual blades that used to be part of a wind turbine in Ogden Utah before being donated to the college. The blade is 145 foot long weighing about eight tons, it will not be part of a working turbine, but will be used as an instruction aid, showing student its interior and the fastening apparatus that once hooked the blade to the tower.

I have seen many of these turbines in the Southern Idaho area, but you do not get a real understanding of their size until you actually see one of these blades up close, gives you a real since of just how massive these turbines really are.

This is a fairly high traffic area, please respect the area, there is no need to climb on the blade, please hide the cache as you found it so that others may enjoy this cache and area.

Congratulations to Robocachers for their First FTF !!!

The Cache is NOT in the metal box with the bolt on the lock, please keep looking.
