LLKD-90 Visit
the Lemon Squeezer
Please note
that this cache is neither at the Lemon Squeezer nor near the
Appalachian Trail. Depending on which way you come from and
by what trail you will need to pass by it. This cache is a
quarter mile or so from the Squeezer. The Lemon Squeezer can be
found at N 41° 15.487 W 074°
07.983.
According to
Wikipedia: "The Lemon Squeezer is an unusual rock formation in
Harriman State Park, New York. It is located at the intersection of
the Appalachian Trail (White) and the Arden-Surebridge Trail (Red
Triangle), near the base of Island Pond Mountain in the town of
Tuxedo."
"At first, the trail passes
under a giant boulder resting precariously on top of other rocks.
After passing this point the true nature of the Lemon Squeezer
becomes apparent as the hiker suddenly gets "squeezed" through a
path that is three feet high, one foot wide, and angled 15 degrees.
Beyond are still more interesting rock formations where pine trees
grow on top of a thin rock ceiling above the path."
There is an easy way (better
called less difficult way) (blue blazes) and the standard way
(white blazes). Either way you will be squeezed. Please
be careful as the standard way has a climb that can be somewhat
hazardous.
As to the cache itself it is
a black plastic ammo can with some trade items, logbook and
pencils. The cache is located just off the Arden-Surebridge
Trail/Long Path. Please rehide better than you
find.
