Scenic View overlooking Sumter Landing that is only reached by walking or by bicycle.
So much of Florida has been developed over the years and a large group of retirees made "The Villages" their new home. Each village has its own charm like the first village named Spanish Springs with its Spanish ambiance. The second is called Lake Sumter Landing. It's the picture of an old Florida town on peaceful natural lake. The Villages was ranked #1 as the fastest growing micropolitan area in the United States according to the 2008 Census. Although there are no signs of history showing, the area of The Villages has an immense history for cattle ranchers. Most do not realize that the cattle was first brought to Florida by Ponce De Leon and Florida has more cattle than any other state including Texas. When people think of Florida they think oranges and Disney World, not cattle.
Villages residents will gain a third village called Brownwood, where just as those of yesteryear for more of a setting of the cowboys of the 1800's roamed this land.
Each of the three villages have a fictional story of how that town came to be. It's entertaining but for the record, its only a story.
