Geocache Description:

When you arrive at GZ, you will be about as close as you can get to the site of the Irwindale Drag Strip without trespassing on private land.

Irwindale Drag Strip or Irwindale Raceway was built in 1965. One of its owners was Harry Snider, the founder of In-N-Out Burgers. Irwindale had the reputation of having the best burgers at any drag strip anywhere (they were In-N-Out burgers without the tomato).

The track had a history of cars going off into the rocks at the top end. Top Fuel Dragster driver Lefty Mudersbach was killed there in 1966.

My best friend was the crew chief for Charlie Allen's "All American Boy" Dodge Funny Car, so I helped them in the pits. I raced my big block 66 Chevy Impala Super Sport & 70 Ford Torino with a 428 CobraJet there. I probably beat Larry the Pool Guy in his 69 Nova.

Irwindale died as a result of local development: In 1977 the city of Irwindale bought the property and basically gave it to the Miller Brewing Co.

While you are at GZ peeking over the fence at the strip, you can smell the aroma of those burgers. Pop Quiz: Which is the closest
In-N-Out; Azusa Ave. or San Bernardino Road?
