Geocache Description:

If the weather isn't nice enough for a day at the beach, consider checking out the ruins between the mouth of the Wailua River and 'Opaeka'a Falls.

Drive up to 'Opaeka'a Falls and enjoy the wonderful views of the river valley. Head back down the road and make a stop at the Poli'ahu Heiau. The ruins are quite impressive. Please appreciate them with your eyes and do not climb on the rocks or go inside the walls. This temple was rumored to have been built in one night by the Menehune, who hauled every rock up from the sacred Wailua River, a two mile drive down the hill. I hauled one rock about twenty feet to hide the cache under, and I thought I was tired!

Just down the road from the Heiau is a small dirt road that offers pleanty of parking and no crowds. Be sure to stop and check out the two huge boulders on the left side of the road as you approach the cache location. There is a spectacular petroglyph carved into the boulder facing the road.

Continue down to the stone bench. The cache container is a few steps past the bench.
