Geocache Description:

Our ninth cache is essentially a companion piece to our sixth one not too far away* although this one is not as controversial as its predecessor.

The posted coordinates should have you standing in front of an amazing mural on an east facing wall. (We discovered this one while on our way to complete ???????.com (GC22BVY) nearby and were simply stunned by its beauty.) On Googling the work, we found that it is, in fact, not graffiti and has been done with the blessing of the owner of the property.

The major tag piece on the fence to its north is also part of the approved work, albeit by a different artist, but I'll let you decide whether either or both constitute 'art'.

You can read more about the works in this January 2009 article taken from the Preston Leader. The article notes that the artist painted the current version over an earlier mural of his. At the time of posting, the Street View function on Google Maps showed the earlier version as follows:

Even given that images from Google Maps aren't the best quality, I think I know which version I prefer.

As a further bonus for those without access to their own transport, this cache is accessible from Dennis Station, which is on the Hurstbridge/Eltham/Greensborough line.

Anyway, on to the cache: In the top right-hand corner of the work on the brick wall, there are X names (this is not a trick question, I have only made it a multi to take you to the mural itself even though you can actually still see the mural from GZ!). The cache is located not very far away (<100 metres) at:

S37º 46.7XX
E145º 00.490

Alas, it looks like the mural is no more. 😢 While I decide whether or not it's worth keeping if there's no real reason to bring people here any more, use this as the clue. At GZ, there's a limited amount of time you can park here (written as 'Y'P on the sign). Let X=2 times Y. (BTW, if you look carefully at the image on this page of the mural as it was, you'll see the answer to 'X' on the mural and ½X on the sign or you could simply let X=4.)

The cache is a 70 mm tube and may or may not take some finding. Muggles might also be a factor from above, behind and across the road so please take care.

The cache is not on the ground (or at least it shouldn't be) and I could probably even rate the terrain as a 1 (suitable for disabled) but I'll leave it at 1½ to save any discussion.

It only contains a log book and pencil although there is a small FTF prize for the lucky person, no trade necessary. Please replace the cache how you found it, including the appropriate orientation, so that others who follow can retrieve it. On a workday, you might find parking hard to come by although the two hour parking areas should mean that there are some spaces close by.

As with all our caches, no-one knows that this is coming on line so the FTF will be won fair and square. Good luck!

FTF honours go to:

Wonkey Donkey

Congratulations!!

We hope you enjoy the cache and the 'sanctioned' mural.
