Geocache Description:

Welcome to Cache No 1 in the PYEWIPE JUNCTION series - a series of 10 caches + a bonus based along the route of the old railway which once ran from Lincoln to Chesterfield. If you enjoy this section there are four other similar series following on along the route - ALL ON A LINE, KEEPING ON TRACK, PERMANENT WAY and RAILWAY CROSSING.The five series provide interest for geocachers along the whole route from Pyewipe near Lincoln to Fledborough in Nottinghamshire. Each section is self contained or the whole route can be covered by the fit and energetic who have a full day to spare - collecting 50 caches along the way.The railway finally closed in 1981 after a derailment proved too costly to repair and the whole route to Fledborough is now a surfaced traffic free cycle track/footpath which once leaving the roar of the bypass is a quiet rural corridor journeying through 4 old stations of interest to railway buffs.
Pyewipe Junction covers the route from the junction area to Skellingthorpe and is approx 1 and 1/2 miles. The line joined the existing railway near here to run into Lincoln. The site of the old junction is on private land and part of the trackway has now been obliterated by the bypass.
The first 10 caches can be found in any order but to find the bonus all 10 will have to be found. To do this collect the numbers in each cache and use them as instructed in the bonus cache entry to get the co ordinates.
Most caches are small and contain only a log roll so don't forget to bring a pen to sign the log and make a note of the numbers.Hints are given in most cases but beware some of these may be cryptic.
As with the other 4 series some caches may prove more challenging than others so check the difficulty rating of each cache to have some idea of how much you may be challenged.Bonus caches have a higher rating than if they had been placed seperately because the whole series has to be found first. Please try to replace each cache as found to provide the same enjoyment / frustration to others following.
Good luck to you all and above all enjoy your day out. Please do not despair if you cannot find them all.Look on the bright side - it gives you an opportunity to return to this lovely route to try again.
Free parking is available at Skellingthorpe community centre while the Pyewipe Inn has a carpark near cache No1.It would of course be polite to ask permission here or purchase drink or food before leaving your car.Which ever end you choose to start remember that it is a linear route and you will have to return to your transport.
Refreshments are available at The Pyewipe Inn along with two further pubs, shops and farm ice cream with play area at Skellingthorpe.
A NOTE TO WHEELCHAIR USERS.YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GET CLOSE TO THE MAJORITY OF CACHES ON A HARD SURFACE BUT MAY REQUIRE ASSISTANCE TO COVER THE EXTRA FEW YARDS TO THE CACHES.
