This cache is placed at the entrance to Magpie Mine which can be explored at any reasonable hour if you wish. This lead mine dates from 1739. Trouble flared in the 1820's and 30's when a nearby mines ( Red Soil Mine) workings frequently broke into Magpies tunnels and both miners tried to smoke the others out. Tragically three workers from Red Soil Mine died from smoke inhalation after a fire set by Magpie miners in1833. The widows of the deceased placed a curse on Magpie Mine and to this day ghosts of the miners have been seen. We can vouch for strange happenings here when we visited a 'Haunted Britain' cache in the middle of the night. Sadly the cache is no longer available.
