Entstehung des Ilsetals

Das Ilsetal ist Teil des Nationalpark Harz und für alle Naturbegeisterten ein muss.
Man kann von hier aus Rad-, Wander- oder im Winter auch Schlittentouren in das gesamte Harzvorland machen. Auch ein Besuch des Ilsesteins ist immer lohnenswert.
Geologische Besonderheiten und wunderschöne Wanderwege ziehen jährlich viele Besucher an.

Das Ilsetal ist durch die erodierende Kraft des Wassers, durch Hangabtragung und durch Ablagerung entstanden. Die Steilheit der Talhänge wird von der Wiederstandsfähigkeit der Gesteine bestimmt. Je nach Härtegrad wurde mehr oder weniger abgetragen und im Flussbett abtransportiert.
An Härtestufen haben sich Wasserfälle gebildet. Da Tiefen- und Seitenerosion, Hangabtragung und Ablagerung in den einzelnen Talabschnitten unterschiedlich stark wirken,
haben sich unterschiedliche Talformen gebildet.
Diese Talbildung bzw. Vertiefung des Flussbettes wird als Tiefenerosion, seine Verbreiterung nach der Seite als Seitenerosion, bezeichnet.
Da das Gefälle von Flüssen in Richtung Mündung abnimmt, wird auch ihre Fähigkeit zum Materialtransport immer geringer. Werden anfangs noch Kiesel und Sand mitgeführt, sind es im Mündungsbereich oft nur noch Schwebeteilchen. Das Material, das für die Transportkraft nicht mehr ausreicht, wird abgelagert (Sedimentation). Die Erosionsbasis ist das Höhenniveau, unterhalb dessen keine Erosionskräfte mehr wirken können - in der Regel ist dies der Meeresspiegel. Im Flusslauf liegende Ebenen und Seen können jedoch lokale Erosionsbasen mit erhöhter Sedimentationsrate darstellen.
Durch die Materialabführung schneidet sich der Fluss beständig weiter in Richtung zu seiner Quelle hin in den Untergrund ein. Dieser Vorgang heißt rückschreitende Erosion.

The development of the Ilsetal

The Ilsetal is part of the Harz National Park and for all nature lovers a must-see. From here you can bike, hike or in winter go sledding in the entire Harzvorland. A visit to the Ilsestein is always worthwhile.
Geologic features and beautiful hiking trails attract thousands of visitors every year.
The Ilsetal was created by the erosive power of water through hillside erosion and deposition. The slope of the valley is determined by the resistance of the rocks. Depending on the hardness of the rocks more or less material was eroded and transported into the riverbed. Waterfalls have formed in areas with hard rock. Since vertical and lateral erosion, hillside erosion and deposition affected each section of the valley differently strong, various valley shapes have been created.
This valley formation and deepening of the riverbed is call vertical erosion, whereas the widening to the side is known as lateral erosion.
As the downwards slope decreases towards the mouth of rivers the ability to transport material becomes steadily lower as well.
At the beginning pebbles and sand are transported but later towards the mouth of the river often only fine particles. Material that can not be transported any longer will be deposited (sedimentation). The erosion base level is the level below which erosive powers cannot act anymore – usually sea level. River plains and lakes within the course of a river can be local erosion bases and may result in higher sedimentation rates.
Because of the removal of material the river cuts further towards its spring into the ground. This process is called regressive erosion.

The coordinates on top of the listing will bring you close to the river Ilse which gave the valley its name.
