Dissenters Grave Yard
This is placed at the end of the alley to the grave yard and a
respectful distance from any grieving relatives
Church Grove in Fleet is named for the Hope Chapel and
Former
location of the Fleet Baptist Church.
Dissenters who disagreed with the Church were not allowed burial
in consecrated grounds and so they were laid to rest in the Hope
Cemetery. Where they may have remained at peace in a forgotten
place, close to the town centre.
(call me a cynic but on realising that they own some prime
real
estate in the Blue Triangle area of Fleet the Church is now
allowing burials here for Christian believers &;The Dissenters
must be turning in their graves!)
Named Hope Cemetery (strange name for a graveyard) after
William Webster who founded the Hope Chapel and a boys boarding
school, the large house can be
seen from the graveyard.
