Geocache Description:

Let’s Celebrate the Birth of Geocaching!!

On May 1, 2000 an announcement was made that Selective Availability would be lifted.

On May 2, 2000, at approximately midnight, EST Selective Availability lifted and the accuracy of GPS technology was greatly improved.

On May 3, 2000 Dave Ulmer hid a black bucket with items inside including videos, books, software, and a slingshot as well as a logbook and pencil. He called it the First GPS Stash. He shared the waypoint of his "stash" with the online community on sci.geo.satellite-nav: N 45° 17.460 W 122° 24.800

Within three days two different people read about his stash on the Internet, used their own GPS receivers to find the container and shared their experiences online. The sport of geocaching was born!

Let the Celebration of 10 Years of Geocaching Continue!!

After a full weekend of caching, come and kick back with us.  Grab some grub and trade stories of your caching adventures.

We will meet and unwind from 4-8pm at

Mr Joe's

26077 West 12 Mile Road

Southfield, MI 48034

What is a celebration without a cake and pictures!

There will also be a raffle table so any donations for it would be great.

Wear your Sunday best (or not) for the group picture.

Group picture taken about 6pm.

(Mr Joe's is a non smoking establishment.)

Multi events are being held across the country and world wide to celebrate this unique day. A trackable geocoin has been minted for these events. Each location has a unique color scheme and metal. The Michigan version of the geocoin will be available for sale at the event for $10. If you are interested in one of these coins please post in your will attend log to reserve one.

***There will be updates as we approach the date of the event so please add it to your watchlist.***
