When you arrive at stage 1, read the Michigan Historical
Commission plaque located at or near the coordinates and collect
the following information:
A = last digit of year depot began passenger service
B = year depot closed
C = year building purchased to be transformed into eatery
D = sum of digits in year building purchased to be transformed into
eatery
XXX = last three digits of original North coordinates
YYY = last three digits of original West coordinates
To calculate the new North coordinates, NNN = XXX - (A * (C -
B)) + 1
N 42.44.NNN
To calculate the new West coordinates, WWW = YYY + D + A
W 084.32.WWW
Using the new coordinates, proceed to find the final. The
container isn't a type that I normally use, but it was a trade item
from a cache that I found the day this cache was placed. I thought
that this would be the perfect location for it.
The proximity to the building can interfere with GPS reception.
I have compared the coordinates to Google and Bing maps and
everything looks right there. The coordinates should be fairly
accurate even if your GPS disagrees a bit.
Ground zero can sometimes be quite busy, especially during the
summer when the local baseball team is playing. Be wary of people
coming and going from the nearby building entrances, although
several are aware of the cache (some of my co-workers). Please use
stealth when retrieving the container. And by the way, don't worry
if someone is in the office window above ground zero. It's probably
me; it's my office.
