Brama:
W Tarnowie przy ulicy Krakowskiej znajduje sie drewniana, rzezbiona brama. Zostala ona podarowana miastu przez Wegrów w 2001 roku w 170-ta rocznice bitwy pod Ostroleka - jedna z bitew powstania listopadowego gdzie walczyl gen. Józef Bem. Jest to jedna z dwóch takich bram na terenie Polski - druga znajduje sie w Starym Saczu. Jest to tzw. Brama Seklerska.
Jej nazwa pochodzi od Seklerów, ludu zamieszkujacego wschodnia czesc Siedmiogrodu w dzisiejszej Rumunii. Byli znani jako waleczny lud, stad obsadzani byli przez królów wegierskich w terenach przygranicznych. Pelnili wiec glównie role obrony granic królestwa. Obecnie w wiekszosci deklaruja swoja narodowosc jako wegierska, jedynie nieliczni jako seklerska.
Stawiane przez nich bramy seklerskie, sa jednym z najbardziej charakterstycznych dla nich przykladem kultury ludowej. Zawieraja w zdobnictwie elementy róznych, czesto archaicznych kultur. Maja wazne znaczenie symboliczne - sa zawsze otwarte a kazdy po ich przekroczeniu staje sie gosciem. Napis wyrzezbiony bramie zamontowanej w Tarnowie glosi:
Pokój wchodzacym, blogoslawienstwo wychodzacym.
Brama Seklerska w Tarnowie nosi imiona Józefa Bema oraz Sandora Petofiego i jest wyrazem wielowiekowej przyjazni polsko-wegierskiej. Józef Bem byl polskim generalem walczacym m.in. w powstaniu listopadowym, a od 1849 r. byl naczelnym wodzem armii wegierskiej. Sandor Petofi byl natomiast poeta wegierskim i adiutantem Bema.
Poprzez brame mozna dostac sie na plac im Petofiego z pomnikiem tego poety. Po bokach znajduja sie tzw. "kopijniki" czyli drewniane slupy nagrobne stawiane na grobach wegierskich wojowników, a bedacych kolejnym przykladem kultury seklerskej. Jeden z nich poswiecony jest pamieci Forgona Mihalego, który bral udzial w obronie twierdzy Przemysl gdzie zostal ranny i zmarl po przewiezieniu go do Tarnowa. Inny kopijnik poswiecony jest pamieci Norberta Lippóczego, wegierskiego wytwórce win tokajskich, który przybyl do Tarnowa i pozostal tu juz do smierci.

The Gate:
In Tarnów, in Krakowska street there is a wooden, carved gate. It was given to the Tarnow city by Hungarians in 2001 to commemorate the battle near Ostroleka - one of the battles during the November Uprising in which general Józef Bem took part. There are only two such gates in Poland: one here and one is in Stray Sacz. It's called the Seklerska Gate.
Its name originates from the Seklers, a nation living in the eastern part of Transylvania in Romania. They were known to be valiant people and for that reason Hungarian kings often assigned the to defend the borders of the Hungarian kingdom. Nowadays, they mostly declare their nationality as Hungarian, only few declares their Sekler nationality.
Seklers built gates which are one of the most distinctive example of Sekler folk art. Various elements from many cultures, often ancient are found on the gates. Sekler gates have important symbolic sense - they are always open and everyone who steps through a gate is a guest. The inscription carved on the gate in Tarnów says:
Peace with those incoming, blessing for the ones who leave.
Józef Bem nad Sandor Petofi are the patrons of the Seklerska Gate in Tarnów and this is an expression of centuries-long friendship between Poland and Hungary. Józef Bem was a Polish general who took part in the November Uprising and since 1849 he was a commander-in-chief of the Hungarian army. Sandor Petofi was a Hungarian poet and Bem's aide-de-camp.
Through the gate you can go to Petofi square where there is his memorial. On its sides there are wooden poles called "kopijnik". They were built on Hungarian warriors graves and are another example of Sekler's art. One of these is commemorated to Forgon Mihaly, who took part in the defence of Przemysl Fortress where he was injured and died after transport to Tarnów. Another "kopijnik" is commemorated to Norbert Lippóczy, a Hungarian producer of Tokaji wine, who arrived to Tarnów and stayed there until his death.
