This view will be changing in the near future. Devon closed its doors in 2013 - a blow to the community - and are in the process of cleaning up the site. I believe this fall of 2014 they will be taking down the big stack and so will change the landscape for sure.
On your quest for this cache, you will find yourself looking over the western end of the Crowsnest Pass and at the Devon Gas Plant. If the wind is blowing you will also find yourself struggling to maintain your footing, so please take care! Below you and to your right are new homes that have just recently been built and on your left you'll see where the trail begins for Star Creek. A bit of history - In the early 40's an airfield was in place in this valley. Devon Gas Plant occupies part of the eastern end of this field and the old "Phillips Cable Plant" was set up on the western end of the air field. In 1946 an aircraft carrying 3 executives for the Mannix Corp. of Calgary was attempting a landing when cattle on the field forced the pilot to circle. He came in low, got tangled in a tree and crashed into the bank of the Crowsnest River. The 3 executives died at the scene and the pilot died in the Coleman Hospital. In later years a sawmill was in place in this area. It sold out and was dismantled a few years ago, effectively eliminating a major employer of the Pass.| This cache is in a smaller camo lock and lock and contains mini deck of cards on a key chain, vampire with pumpkin head, hummingbird keychain, CNP Trade Dollar "Burmis Tree", plug charm, Colleen's marble from Niagara, Mini book for a child, and Boom-0 card game. There is the standard Geocache info, log book and pen and pencil.
