Geocache Description:

Second of our caches set up at a local cricket ground

This cache has been changed to a 35mm film canister after the original lunchbox was muggled. The cache is hidden at the entrance of the Sports Ground, just off the N2 between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown.

The ground had a thriving sports club, with tennis courts, a squash court and two cricket fields. Sadly, due to the increase in game farms in the area, fewer farmers are around and the cricket section has fallen away. This is particularly sad as the cricket club has been in existence for almost 100 years. If you are feeling brave, and there are people around, you can pop into the clubhouse and have a look at the photos showing 'Cricketers at lunch, 1910' and other old photos and trophies. Fortunately, although the local team has fallen away, the ground is currently used by Kenton-on-Sea as their home venue. The tennis club is still active so this old ground is used from time to time.

Take a moment to admire the view, and wander around if you want to, though there is no need to actually enter the grounds to find the cache.

As with most cricket venues, weekends between September and April will be full of muggles in white...chasing a red leather ball!

Please note that the dirt road is very busy and here are lots of muggled around. STEALTH is essential!!
