Tawharanui Marine Park was established in 1981 on the northern coast of Tawharanui Peninsula covering an area of 588 hectares, approximately 80 minutes north of Auckland.

The Marine Park complements the terrestrial Tawharanui Regional Park that covers the peninsula. Special fisheries regulations prohibit the taking of all marine life within a three kilometre length of the shore and out to half a nautical mile from the coast.

Tawharanui marine environment The diverse coastline of Tawharanui Peninsula contains a range of subtidal habitats, such as reefs with overhangs, tunnels and caves. Schools of red moki, blue maomao, spotty, red mullet and koheru are common in the park.

Tawharanui Peninsula Regional Park and Marine Park are administered by Auckland Regional Council.
