Snailback Falls Traditional Cache
Seahorse, FrogFish, and Becky: This area suffered from a recent forest fire and there are many downed trees. The last mile of the trail has gotten really rough and the cache appears to be buried under fallen trees.

During the rainy season, this hike will take you to a terrific and very hidden waterfall.
Snailback Falls is a hidden gem in the Illinois Valley. Few people know about it and fewer visit it. Not much water runs over it during the summer, try and visit during the wet season, particularly soon after a good rain! It really is a wonderful waterfall hidden deep in the forest. As an added bonus, there is a very interesting mine along the way.
You will be happy if you use these parking coords to begin your quest: N 42-16.933 W 123-40.436, trust us on this. It is very hard to access the falls from anywhere else!
You can drive a jeep or quad part way up the old mining road, but it is pretty rough and brushy.
When you get to the top of the ridge, and the old road seems to drop down to your left, look for a faint but visible trail to your right and it will take you to the falls via the old mine. Watch for the mineshaft and related equipement along the way. Total distance from the paved road to the fall is about 2 miles. The beginning is quite steep, great exercise. Keep the kids close when you get near the creek, it is steep below you. Again, after a good rain, this fall is most spectacular, but the hike is good anytime.
