Geocache Description:

Kaitlyn celebrated her first Valentine's Day and thought it would be nice to hide the family's first cache. It's located on a trail that we take often to enjoy the San Marcos countryside. We've passed by this location and wondered about it's origins. Thanks to one of the visitors (tkab-fam), we now know the history of this location and is in the long description.

Congrats to libertybel for skipping dessert during Valentine's Day dinner to be the FTF!

Some updated history from tkab-fam:
This used to be a Palm Tree farm, and the "structure" is a capped well/cistern that was next to water tanks and irrigation that drew water from the well and the creek below, to irrigate the palm trees.
The guy who used to live here also had a well drilling service, and there used to be trucks, drill bits, and all sorts of other junk all over the place.
The area burned in the Harmony Grove fire, and he moved out, but rented it out as a place for some people to park their trailers, since it had electrical and phone. He wanted to incorporate it into San Marcos, and develop it, but was stymied. Eventually (a few years ago), it was sold to the conservation fund, and it is now part of the Escondido Creek Conservancy. They removed all the tanks, irrigation pipes, junk, and dwellings/remnants about two years ago, and put up the gates and signs over the past year.
This area used to be very popular with off-roaders and dirt bikers, but we are now barred from it, even though the trails are well defined, and most of the damage to the environment was done by the prior landowner and his assorted trash piles, not the off-roaders.
