Tokai Fire
Look-Out
An
easy short hike in the western section of the Silvermine part
of Cape
Peninsula
National
Park along
jeep tracks and well constructed trails to a stunning viewpoint
overlooking Tokai

Park
at the large parking area near Silvermine Reservoir at
S 34 04.509 E
18 24.049 and
head up the Elephant Eye Trail which starts at the north-west end
of the carpark.
Follow
the trail and jeep track to S 34 04.086 E
18 23.627 and
branch right here off the jeep track continuing along the
Elephant’s Eye trail.
Follow
this track passing the junction with the path coming from
‘Puzzle Ridge’ (Silvermine Crags) at S 34 04.030 E
18 23.642 and
continue to the junction at S 34 03.735 E
18 23.826 where
a short smaller trail ascends to the Look-Out.
The
cache, a small cylindrical camo-container with a logbook, pencil
and a few small items for trade, is hidden in the wall on
the Table
Mountain
side
of the look-out base. As this is a popular spot, you may have to
employ suitable stealth tactics to seek, retrieve and replace the
cache.
From
here you may continue onwards and upwards to Elephants
Eye
Cave
(and
cache GC1QYCC)
and further to the summit of Constantiaberg (with its
Constantia
Peak
cache
GCR2M8
and
the nearby Elephant Proctology cache
GC20QPK),
or return the way you came.
Note:
toilet
facilities & drinking water are available not far from the
start of the trail near the car park.
Caution
.
. . also be on the Look-Out for Puff Adders . . . which have been
seen near the cache (December 2010)
