Tonmergelgrube Rettigheim (Rhein-Neckar-Kreis)
Gesteine des Unteren Jura sind im Kraichgau lokal begrenzt in der sog. "Langenbrückener Senke" anzutreffen. Hierbei handelt es sich um feinkörnige schwarz-blaue Tone und braun gefärbte, sandige Gesteinsbänke. Am Rand der Senke treten mehrere Schwefelquellen zutage, denen Bad Mingolsheim und Bad Schönborn ihre Bedeutung als Kurorte verdanken.
Die noch im Betrieb befindliche Tongrube am südlichen Ortsrand von Rettigheim liegt in der Formation des Unteren Jura. Stellenweise sind auch Pyrit und Schwefelkies auffindbar. Fossilien (Muscheln, Seelilien) dagegen sind eher selten. Über den dunklen Schwarzjuraschichten befinden sich 3 bis 4 m hohe hellgelbe Lössauflagen. Darüber ist der Oberboden des Brettwalds (Buchen und Eichenwald) mit seinen humusreichen Schichten aufgeschlossen.
Einen weiterer Steinbruch, der nur noch zum Teil existiert, findet ihr in Langenbrücken: die Posidonien-Schiefergrube.

Rocks of the lower jurassic are in the Kraichgau locally limits in the so-called "Langenbrückener Senke" to find. On this occasion, it concerns fine-grained black-blue tone and brown coloured, sandy rock benches. On the edge of the dip step several sulphur springs to which bad mingolsheim and bad schönborn owe her meaning as health resorts.
The clay pit (still be in use) located in the southern local edge of Rettigheim lies in the formation of the lower jurassic. Here and there are also discoverable Pyrit and sulphur gravel. Fossils (mussels, sea lilies) against it are rather rare. About the dark black jurassic layers pale yellow loess overlays are from 3 to 4 m high. About that is the top soil of the board wood (beech and oaken wood) with his layers rich in humus openly.
You find an other stone quarry which exists only partly in Langenbrücken: the posidonien-slate pit.
