Geocache Description:

Cache is located on the tip of the Island in a container recycled from Island cache #1. We decided not to carry it out but rather put it to use as another Island cache to draw attention to the beauty of the lake.

Easy access when then the lake is frozen,but will require a short swim when not!!
A walk into Spruce Hill Lake from Old Sambro Road in Harrietsfield[ parking N44 35.092 W063 38.532]is a pleasant experience any time, but it is particularly beautiful in the fall of the year. You will be taken back in time as you explore the northeastern shoreline which was fortified with rock walls by local stone cutters and labourers in 1868. The main dam, built at the same time, is still intact, with a sluice gate that was opened and closed by the caretaker. This dam, an earthen structure, is 1200 feet long and 12 feet wide on top, with 16 inch granite blocks on the inner and outer slopes. The gatehouse, was built in 1889 of brick, concrete and granite. Its walls were 4 feet thick. Unfortunately the gatehouse no longer exists. When standing on the dam looking down the lake, the small Island in the middle holds the Island Cache #2.
The easiest access is by the ice.( Red Cross recommends a minimum of 6"/15cm ice thickness) The cache {tobacco container} when placed contained items recycled from Island cache # 1 & a film canister for the log.
