Geocache Description:

Lovejoy Loses It
TV Series 4 Episode 13

The above coordinates are not for the cache location but for a layby on the Pentewan to Mevagissey road (B3273). The actual cache location must be worked out by reading the information below or as a 3 stage multi.
The layby itself is worth stopping off at, as it affords a great view out to sea. On a clear day.

The cache is about 2km outside Mevagissey village, so is walkable if you do the 3 "Looking for Lovejoy" caches in the village first. However, if you are walking or cycling, we recommend leaving the village via Church Lane and Vicarage Road rather than the main B3273, which has some nasty bends and is busy with traffic. The back road is steep & winding but a bit quieter.
If you drive to this cache, there is parking right next to the actual cache site in a field gateway. However, to get to the actual cache requires a bit of clambering, so please take care if it's wet. Also, this means the final find may not be suitable for those in wheelchairs.

The cache location affords great panoramic views. If muggles approach, just pretend to be taking a photo of the views, with a GPS! (That's what we did when we hid it)

There is a coin of the realm for FTF, a log book and pen/pencil.
In addition to Lovejoy's antiques, there are some quality swaps for adults and children (please swap like for like).

In addition to the general swaps in the cache, there is a smaller box containing Lovejoy's antiques. You may swap the antiques BUT please swap them for other items of antique furniture, paintings, statues, musical instruments etc so when Lovejoy gets back he will have the same value of items in his stash to get him back on his feet again. If you want to swap an antique, remember to bring something suitable with you. Remember, Lovejoy is a ‘divvy’ so he’ll know what’s valuable and what’s not! Please record your antique swaps in the log book AND in your online log so all can see what antiques are available to swap at any one time.

The Puzzle

Lovejoy the lovable rogue is in trouble. Again. He’s made a
few dodgy deals and Charlie Gimbert is not a happy man as he lost a lot of cash as a result. Normally inept, Charlie has this time enlisted the help of some shady characters to track Lovejoy down and get revenge or financial recompense.
As usual, Lovejoy does the brave thing and legs it.

He can't take his valuables with him as he is attempting to leave on a small fishing boat to avoid the main ports, which Charlie is bound to have covered. He has chosen Mevagissey to make his escape, so has left a stash of antiques for his friends to find nearby.

When Lovejoy left the antiques container (a box within the cache) it had in it:

An Antique Clock (in which Lovejoy found some 19th Century love letters)
TV Series 1; Episode 8 “The March of Time”(1986)

A Pair of Antique Flintlock Pistols
Book 1: “The Judas Pair” (Collins, 1977)
TV Series 1 Episode 5 “The Judas Pair” (1986)

The Venus de Milo
TV Series 2, Episode 2 “The Italian Venus” (1991)

A forgery of The Haywain by John Constable
Original painted in 1821 and featuring a scene near Flatford Mill
in South Suffolk (map reference TM076332), the area where much of the TV series was filmed.

An American 1 Cent Coin
Book 23: "Every Last Cent" (MacMillan; 2001)

In his race to Mevagissey, Lovejoy cadged a lift with a tourist and while in the car travelling down the winding hill into the village, he sent the following e-mail from his phone to Jane Felsham, Tinker Dill & Eric. They knew what was in the antique stash, so all they needed were the coordinates, but Lovejoy couldn’t risk publishing them openly on the Geocaching website or in the e-mail for Charlie’s goons to find, so this time he sent them in code, knowing Jane would be able to work it all out as she knew him so well.

Lovejoy’s E-mail:

“Listen you lot, I’ve had to do a runner, no time to explain but Charlie’s onto me big time. Sent some gorillas after me. I’m in trouble Janey. Look after my gear till I can get back will you. Keep an eye on it, and don’t let Charlie or the cops get their hands on it. That stuff is worth loads of zlotniks. Get Tinker to trade some of it if you can. Cheers dwoorlink.
I’ve stashed it at:
North: L0° 1P.1RT
West: 00H° GR.KQF

Don’t let me down sweetheart.
Lovejoy.

Knowing Lovejoy so well, Jane Felsham was able to crack his code and identify where the antiques were stored. Can You??

Good Luck!

The Multi Method
Find this cache as a 3 stage multi instead, collecting 3 additional caches on the way
(you don't have to find the caches as the info you need is available from the cache locations, not the caches themselves, hence this is a multi rather than a bonus to a series, so if one of the 3 other caches gets muggled or you can't find it, you can still find this cache):

Step 1. Go to the published location of GC241RK:
Looking for Lovejoy 1 - The Ring
(N 50° 16.217 ; W 004° 47.278)

Above the cache location is a street light with a code number. The 3 digits on this code (in order) will give you A, B & C

Step 2. Go to the published location of GC241T7:
Looking for Lovejoy 2 - Friends in High Places
(N 50° 16.234 W 004° 47.098)

On the door, you will find a 6 digit number. The first 2 digits (before the slash) will give you D & E.

Step 3. Go to the published location of GC241TJ:
Looking for Lovejoy 3 - The Price of Fish
(N 50° 16.102 W 004° 46.990)

Next to the cache site is a telegraph pole carrying a reference with 2 digits and two letters. The 2 digits (in order) will give you F & G.

To check you have the correct numbers, A+B+C+D+E+F+G=22

This cache can now be found at the following location:

N50° (E-F)(D+C-G).(C-A+G)(D+E)(B+G)
W004° (B/A)(A+E+F).(B-E+G)(B-D+C)(E-G)

Lovejoy is a character from the books by Jonathan Gash
