Geocache Description:

This cache is located where the main part of Mont Belvieu used to be. This neighborhood and the town has been relocated about 2 miles east.
You are looking for a Rubbermaid lock-top container

If you found the cache then you are standing on the eastern slope of one of the largest Salt Domes in North America and possibly the world. Salt Domes are formed when a thick bed of minerals (mainly salt), found at depths, intrudes vertically into surrounding rock. See the related web site as it explains how salt domes are formed and why oil was found at the Spindletop salt dome (the same reason oil was found in this area). Originally know as Barbers Hill, the named was changed to Mont Belvieu (beautiful mountain). Barbers Hill rises about 50 feet higher than the surrounding area. I have included another web site that goes into detail about history of Barbers Hill Salt Dome and the disaster that happened here and why the whole town was moved.

Today it is the largest underground storage facility of products extracted from LNG (Liquidfied Natural Gas) in North America and every major pipeline in the United States passes through Mont Belvieu.
