Geocache Description:

Welcome to beautiful downtown Haskell and Thunderbird Park. This family friendly park honors Oklahoma's 45th Infantry Division .This should be a "walk in the park", but the tricky micro could be a challenge.Watch for muggles, they're everywhere. BYOP. Please replace cache exactly where you found it. Bring the family and have a picnic. There is a playground and nearby parking.

The 45th Infantry Division first saw action in World War II fighting in the Mediterranean. Making amphibious landings at Sicily, Anzio, and Salerno, the division played a key role in the liberation of Italy before making a fourth amphibious landing in Europe to liberate France. Eventually, the division advanced into Germany itself.

Haskell was named for townsite developer Charles N. Haskell who later became Oklahoma's first governor. J Paul Getty drilled his first oil well near Haskell in 1916 and in the 1930's the town served as a hideout for the infamous bank robber Charles "Pretty Boy" Floyd. During WWII, the town's National Guard armory held German POW's who worked on local farms harvesting fruits and vegetables.

Placed with permission of the Haskell City Council.

***Congrats to Robpillageburn for FTF !!!***
