Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Split Oak Forest Mitigation Park. Purchased in 1994, this site is jointly managed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Orange County Parks Department.

The posted coordinates will take you to the main parking lot. The true coordinates of this cache are 28° 21.0AB and 81° 12.1CD, somewhere in the approximate center of the property.

Split Oak Forest is currently managed to enhance and preserve the habitat of the gopher tortoise, along with the other wildlife and plants that inhabit this diverse area. The site is under a fire management program and visitors have a firsthand opportunity to observe the positive effects this practice has on our native plant communities. Wildlife viewing, hiking, and horseback riding are likely to be most pleasant in the fall, winter and in the spring when the weather is cooler and bugs may be less plentiful.

In order to find the true location of this puzzle cache, you must find 4 other caches hidden on this property and extract the required information from each cache.

Even with careful planning and the utilization of multiple parking areas, you should expect a round trip of at least 7.5 miles to find the first 4 caches and an additional 2 miles to find the final location. There are numerous trails and dirt roads that crisscross the property - Google Earth is your friend. A bike will help a lot, but there are some areas that may be underwater after a rain and there are quite a few ares of sugar sand. Horses are also welcome but dogs are not. Please bring appropriate sustenance, especially during the summer months.

Shane Belson of FWC gave permission for these caches and helped with their placement. Placed under FWC permit GEO-29503.
