please use new co ords of 54 40.441-001 39.162 the name witches tunnel is what ive always known this bridge as since growing up at nearby binchester this was one of our playgrounds as kids theres a couple of nearby car parks one in the layby at the top of park head bank and one behind the bp garage at condon station
this old railway tunnel is on the auckland way cycle path which was originally the railway line owned by the clarence railway company this used to link spennymoor to bishop auckland and was used for transporting coal to the east coast main line where it was taken to london.the bridge was made wide enough to plant treesand vegatation on so the bishop of durham could not see the railway pass through auckland park this was a main point before constuction of the line was allowed
