If you went to junior high in Humble back in the '30's through the early '70's, you were a Bodiddle. For a while, that was the junior high mascot. There were various explanations as to what a "Bodiddle" was. Coach Jarrell, our eighth grade history teacher told us it was a hobo. Other sources say it was the name given to the young helpers of the wildcatters and roughnecks in the early days of Humble's oil boom. Another source said it was a con artist. For example, I bodiddled that lady out of her rent money. All this makes me wonder about the blues singer, Bo Diddly. Whatever the origin of the term, when I was in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades in Humble, I was a Bodiddle. Alas, eventually the throes of progress hit town and by the mid-'70's the name became a victim of progress as the kids wanted to be Wildcats, just like the high schoolers.
The cache is hidden where I went to middle school. Originally it was the high school from where my older brother graduated. Once the present high school was built, this building was the middle school for several years. It no longer is used as a school. When the final bell rang on my last day as a Bodiddle, I jumped out the first story window and ran to may Father's doctors office at 610 Main. The cache is a butt-keeper. Once you find it, it may make sense. I bought it at Walgreens. There is only room for a log, so bring your own pen or pencil. Besides, you were expected to bring your own pen and pencil to class, weren't you? The log may be difficult to return to the container, so please take the time to replace it carefully back into the container. And for Pete sake, please replace the container as you found it. Oh yeah, watch out. There is some broken glass around there.
Somewhere in the distance, you may still be able to hear,
"We are the Bodiddles! Mighty, mighty Bodiddles!"
