La communauté de Radhadesh
‘Radhadesh’ est une communauté spirituelle fondée en 1979, basée au Château de Petite Somme, bâtisse datant du 19ème siècle. Le château et ses dépendances sont répartis sur plus de 47 hectares, avec pâturages et forêts superbes. Une centaine de personnes vivent au sein de la communauté. Radhadesh, le principal centre ISKCON du Bénélux, est une association sans but lucratif (a.s.b.l. / v.z.w). Elle est administrée démocratiquement par un conseil général.
Hindouisme
Le mot “Hindouisme” est un terme général utilisé pour désigner la culture religieuse de l'Inde dans son ensemble, mais n'appartient pas au vocabulaire originel des Hindous. En effet, le terme “Hindouisme” a été introduit par les Perses qui indiquaient ainsi la culture des indigènes habitant au delà de l'Indus (rivière actuellement située au Pakistan). L'Hindouisme de ce fait se décline en traditions variées.
Le Vaisnavisme à travers le monde
La tradition à laquelle ISKCON appartient s'appelle le Vaishnavisme, et représente une branche importante de l'Hindouisme. Les Vaishnavas sont dévots de Krishna (ou de Ses émanations originelles). Selon le 1996 Britannica Book of the Year, il y a environ 560 millions de Vaishnavas dans le monde. C’est le Vaishnavisme qui réunit le plus grand nombre de fidèles parmi les différentes confessions de l’Inde. ‘Radhadesh’ is een spirituele leefgemeenschap die in 1979 is opgericht in het Château de Petite Somme – een prachtig 19de eeuws kasteel in de Belgische Ardennen. Het landgoed is bijna 47 hectare groot en bestaat onder meer uit weilanden en bossen. In de gemeenschap leven ruim 100 mensen. Radhadesh is een non-profit organisatie (een a.s.b.l/v.z.w. of stichting) en wordt bestuurd door een algemene democratische raad. Het is het belangrijkste centrum van de Internationale Gemeenschap voor Krishna-bewustzijn in de Benelux.
Hindoeïsme
Het hindoeïsme is een overkoepelende term waarmee wordt verwezen naar de inheemse religieuze cultuur van India. De term ‘hindoeïsme’ is niet oorspronkelijk bedacht door de Indiërs zelf, maar is geïntroduceerd door de Perziërs, die met dit woord verwezen naar de cultuur van de mensen die aan de andere kant woonden van de Indus (een rivier in het huidige Pakistan). Het hindoeïsme had oorspronkelijk dus geen religieuze betekenis, en verwijst dus niet naar één specifieke religie, maar naar allerlei religies – met uiteenlopende opvatting – die oorspronkelijk uit India komen.

Het vaishnavisme, de traditie waartoe ISKCON behoort, is een belangrijke tak binnen het hindoeïsme. Vaishnava’s zijn toegewijden van Krishna (of van Zijn expansies). Er wordt geschat dat er wereldwijd ongeveer 560 miljoen vaishnava’s zijn. Van alle groeperingen in India heeft het vaishnavisme de meeste volgelingen. Er zijn ook veel soorten en maten vaishnava’s, met verschillende maten van toewijding.

Radhadesh is a spiritual community founded in 1979. It is based in the Château de Petite Somme – a 19th century castle in the Belgian Ardennes. The community and facilities are spread over 47 hectares, and include pasturing grounds and scenic woodland. There are around 100 people who live in the community. Radhadesh is a non-profit making organization (an a.s.b.l. / v.z.w) administered by a democratic general council, and is the main center for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in the Benelux.

Vaishnavism, the tradition to which ISKCON belongs, is an important branch of Hinduism. Vaishnavas are devotees of Krishna (or His primary expansions). According to the 1996 Britannica Book of the Year, there are about 560 million Vaishnavas worldwide. Vaishnavism has the largest number of followers among the various groups in India. Vaishnavas come from all walks of life, with varying degrees of commitment.
