In 1643 Yelverton Crowe, son of John Crowe (one of the first
settlers of Yarmouth’s north side), obtained a large parcel
of land bordering Lewis Bay, or the “South Seas”.
According to legend, Crowe is said to have acquired the land from
an Indian sachem who told Crowe he could have as much land as he
could walk over in an hour in exchange for an "ox-chain, a copper
kettle ... and a few trinkets." Crowe’s lands included much
of what is West Yarmouth today. http://www.hsoy.org
Crowe’s Purchase was once the old Yarmouth drive-in and is
one of 65 dead drive-ins in Massachusetts. The Wellfleet drive-in
is one of six state wide still in operation. (driveintheater.com)
Today, Crowe’s Purchase is the starting point for
Yarmouth’s Seaside Festival Parade in October and the site
for Cole Brothers Circus of the Stars in the summer.
This is our first attempt at a multi-cache and we hope you find
it challenging! This is a 4 stage multi, the coords above will take
you to stage one. The cacher who is FTF at stage 4 will be treated
to a crisp $2.00 bill. Other finders will have a variety of swag
from which to choose, along with several unactivated pathtags, an
unactivated micro geo-coin (Compass Rose) and much, much more.
