Geocache Description:

The Cache is NOT at the coordinates Listed!!! You have to SAVE Mission Bay from attack to find the final cache.

Mission Bay is under attack! A PT Boat, Destroyer, Aircraft Carrier and Battleship have been seen lurking in Mission Bay threatening our recreation. They must be located and sunk! The whole city is counting on you.

Below is a modified Battleship game board which consists of a 6X5 grid.  Hidden on the grid are 3 boats, a PT boat (2-holes), a Destroyer (3-holes), and an Aircraft Carrier (4-holes). To find the coordinates of the battleship (final cache), you must first locate these 3 Boats. Once they are located, you will have to do some slight calculations to obtain the coordinates of the final cache (battleship).

To fire a shot, simply visit the location of one of the 30 virtual targets in Mission Bay Park. There are no cache containers at any of these locations. Determine if the answer to the question for that location is TRUE or FALSE.   If the answer is true, it is a "hit"; if the answer is false it is a "miss". There is no need to go to all 30 locations, but you will need to find all 3 boats (A total of 9 "hits") in order to obtain coordinates for the final cache.

Once you have determined the position of all 3 boats, you will need to determine the orientation and move some numbers around some. Here is all the information you will need to figure the final coordinates:

  • On the grid, North is "up".
  • All boats are either heading south or east.
  • For translating rows to numbers, A=6; B=7; C=8; D=9; E=0.
  • The front portion of a boat represents the columns (numbers 1-6).
  • The rear portion of a boat represents the rows (numbers 6-0).

Final Coordinates:
Latitude: N 32º 47. (Carrier front)(PT front)(PT rear)
Longitude: W 117º 12. (Destroyer front)(Destroyer rear)(Carrier rear)
Due to park removing bushes the cacahe has been moved - add .030 to the Latitude and .012 to the Longitude!!

The final cache is hidden somewhere in Mission Bay Park. Find it and the battleship will be sunk! Move fast, sailor we are counting on you!

Cache contains many Navy Unit Identification rockers and FTF$

Thanks go to IntotheWoods whose cache "Charleston Under Siege!" was the inspiration for this cache!
