Geocache Description:

This cache is set as part of the Essex Country Parks/Trailnet - Heritage Lottery Funded Geocaching project.

Extreme Stealth will be required retrieving and replacing this cache. At GZ you can be seen by several of the woodland paths

Ancient Pollards

The paths into the woodland offer respite from the sun in the dappled shade of ancient oaks, hornbeams and sweet chestnuts. In these woods are two of the oldest trees on the park the first a Beech the second an Oak. These are between 500 and 700 years old and are perhaps the parks most impressive trees.

Three hundred years ago this wood was criss crossed with rides and vistas many of which started from Stubbers Hil, its highest point. Tree growth over the last sixty years has obsecured them completely, now you have to imagine the views across the lakes and park to far off spires and windmills

Local legend has it that during the Great War sweethearts would carve their names into the trunk of the Beech tree, before the men went off to the front. When the men returned safely home they again carved their names into this great tree.

Sadly there aren't many names carved more than once.

How many can you find?

This cache contains a codeword for the Marsh Farm/Cressing Temple Bonus cache.

Each park will have a different codeword. When you have collected the codewords from the other Essex Country Parks send all the codewords to SXParx (via GC.com) to receive a free entry voucher into Marsh Farm or Cressing Temple.
