In 2010, the city of New Bern, the colonial capital of North Carolina, celebrated the 300th anniversary of its founding in 1710. This geocache is one of a series that highlight the 300-year history of New Bern. We promise a fun time for all who chose to seek out these caches, learn some of the history of our fair city, and discover why it is an interesting and pleasant city to visit or even to call home.
One of the true gems of the City, the Union Point Park complex is a scenic six acre site located at the conjunction of the Neuse and Trent Rivers. Although there does not seem to be anything of noteworthy historical significance to this location, the park and its neighboring Riverfront Convention and Visitors Center are frequently the focus of all sorts of civic celebrations.
A hallmark of the park complex, a Gazebo often used for weddings, festivals, and various special events, highlights what is a magnificent view of the Neuse and Trent Rivers. The complex includes a walkway bridging Union Point Park and the Riverfront Convention Center, boat launches, restroom facilities, picnic tables, fishing pier, grills, and a small playground.
BRING YOUR OWN PEN, use stealth, and please be sure to rehide the cache exactly where you found it! SIGN THE LOG WITH INITIALS ONLY - the log is small and this cache draws LOTS of visitors!
